The CRE Sales Manager is responsible for leading and developing a team of commercial loan officers in effectively managing their loan production and focuses on growing and maintaining the commercial real estate portfolio of the Credit Union. Oversees pre-flight conversations for commercial loan requests from loan officers. This individual trains and develops commercial loan officers with respect to their sales efforts, conducts sales calls and loan prospecting interviews jointly with loan officers and other business partners. Oversees “special projects” within the CRE team, ensuring proper due diligence is performed prior to obligating the Credit Union on any level. Once loan requests are in progress, ensures they proceed through the closing process in a timely and efficient manner.

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully.

  • Provides direct leadership to commercial real estate loan officers. Coaches, trains, develops, and periodically evaluates loan officers for a good understanding of all products offered within the Business Lending team and their respective guidelines.
  • Develops and implements a consistent plan to convert leads to loans (e.g.: service-level agreement, professional courtesy in communication, communication as to why MACU is a good value, asking for their business relationship for a loan officer's team.
  • Directly oversees the pre-flight conversations with respect to prospective loan requests and provides initial support for/against loan requests based on credit union standards.
  • Sets and evaluates goals for loan officers including production, referrals, deposits, etc; monitors and reports on their progress towards those goals. Creates and maintains monthly reports to assess loan officers’ productivity levels.
  • Assumes responsibility for sales and incentive reporting. This includes the hold back portion of the incentive at year end, adjusting for any deductions.
  • Maintains employee personnel files and conducts performance evaluations on a quarterly basis. Coaches employees immediately when feedback is needed for improved job performance, including written performance improvement plans.
  • Has direct oversight of commercial loan officers in developing market share growth strategies, which include marketing and working with brokers, realtors, financial planners, CPAs, builders, attorneys, closing agents, and other real estate professionals, etc.
  • Develops and maintains networking relationships within the local commercial real estate and business lending community.
  • Monitors and reviews existing commercial lending relationships on a regular basis.
  • Contributes to the Business Lending management team in strategic planning for the team.
  • Oversees loans for and maintains relationships with complex, high-net worth and/or specialized Borrowers. Maintains a personal commercial loan portfolio with the approval of the VP, as needed.
  • Organizes and conducts regular sales meetings and ensures communication of successes, recognition and rewards occur regularly and often.
  • Works closely with others on the CRE team to help ensure loan approvals, denials and closings are being completed appropriately and promptly.
  • Resolves all member/broker loan problems and/or complaints in a timely and professional manner, appropriately representing the Credit Union.
  • Acts as a resource to other team members and other Credit Union teams. Maintains proper relationships with all Credit Union teams and supports cross-selling opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

Seven years of commercial lending experience with a focus in sales management experience preferred).

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, marketing, finance, economics or related field. Education will be verified. Or an additional three combined years experience in a progressive financial setting may be substituted for a relevant degree.

Has managerial responsibility for one or more key areas of the organization typically with reporting managers and/or department heads. Works closely with top management to establish broad plans that contribute to development and implementation of policies that affect several functional areas. Determines goals to be reached and leads the achievement of goals. Recommends candidates for employment, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff, and applies company policy/disciplinary action.

Computer/Office Equipment Skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Experience with analytical and reporting software and loan origination systems.

Language Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to document outcomes and present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent inter-personal skills including the ability to lead and collaborate with ad-hoc teams.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with strong organization and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and timelines.
  • Knowledge of rules, requirements, and regulations from governing bodies (NCUA, CFPB, OCC, et al) with respect to commercial lending
  • Ability to adeptly gauge the merits of a commercial loan request, the ideal structure of the request and whether there are enough strengths to mitigate expected weaknesses to a degree satisfactory to MACU.
  • Adaptive to change, responds positively to altered circumstances or conditions.
  • Possess a desire and willingness to learn and continually update knowledge base on financial concepts, strategies, systems etc.
  • Take initiative to be a problem solver and provide suggestions to improve processes and efficiencies.
